Brainchild of local band The Dirty Novels, the Blackbird has been appropriately rock ’n’ rolled with excellent music, black-clad waitresses and a cool look. There are an impressive number of draft and bottled beers, and a few nice wines by the glass, which are fan-freaking-tastic on the back patio. By the way, "buvette" (boo-vet) is a loose French translation for "refreshment bar." Now you’re really in the know. (Alibi Staff, August 11, 2010) View/Add Reviews [ 22 ] The Library began as a concept bar a few years ago in Tempe, Ariz., catering to the lunch and dinner crowd, transforming in the later hours of the evening into a nightclub. The food is pretty standard bar fare with burgers and the like—but at least in this case you’ll be served by Catholic schoolgirl-attired waitresses, who, at prescribed times during the night, will dance on the bar mere inches from your taco plate. (Alibi Staff, August 11, 2010) Add a Review If jocked-out Humphrey Bogart and sorority-girl Lauren Bacall had to pick a spot in this town to stare dreamily into each other’s eyes, and then polish off a plate of sliders, they’d probably do it at Maloney’s. Located smack in the center of Downtown, this pub and eatery boasts a movie star-themed menu, rock-star music and one of the the most popular patios in the Burque. Check out their Sierra Nevada-battered onion rings with chipotle ranch dressing or their signature “spuds Maloney” loaded potato skins. And with no cover charge, even Sinatra’s limo driver can afford to roll on in. (Alibi Staff, August 11, 2010) View/Add Reviews [ 10 ] Marble Brewery opened its doors in the spring of 2008, and since then it’s become a favorite haunt of Burque beer fans. Go in for a flight—10 little glasses of every beer on tap—and taste the meticulously brewed rainbow, each beer distinct and complex. Six-packs, bombers, growlers and kegs are good to go. (Alibi Staff, August 11, 2010) View/Add Reviews [ 2 ] Despite the massive reconstruction work that's been done on the inside of this second-story restaurant-lounge, you won’t be able to keep your eyes off the epic views of the Sunrise Bank building and Route 66 one story below. Up front, there's a curved black-and-gold granite bar that’s custom-built for fabulous cocktails—One Up infuses several of its liquors and hand-muddles fresh fruits and vegetables. Leather lounge settees are staggered throughout the wide-open space, staging several opulent but comfortable conversation zones. Top-of-the-line professional pool tables line the back the room. On the food side, a large menu of tapas (kobe sliders and fried goat cheese among them) and more substantial entrées rounds out your evening. (Alibi Staff, August 11, 2010) View/Add Reviews [ 1 ] Albuquerque - FairgroundsAlbuquerque - Far Northeast HeightsThe Barley Room is a watering hole in the far Northeast Heights that fills patrons up with live music, lots of libations and a surprisingly ample menu. Snack on bar-friendly fried things (say yes to the sweet potato fries!), or have a proper meal with burgers, salads, pasta, New Mexican dishes and a few grilled meat and fish entrées. There’s a palpable sports bar feel to the place, but a diverse clientele keeps this bar/grill comfortable for just about everyone. The kitchen stays open until midnight every night; go ahead and linger. Even though it’s clear across town, you’ll still probably bump into folks you know as you’re sipping a wicked Bloody Mary and enjoying tidbits from the affordably priced tapas menu. (10/5/2006) Rough-hewn wood planks lead you into this nautically themed steak and seafood restaurant, which doesn’t start seating for dinner until 5 p.m. Luckily, happy hour begins at 4 p.m. Have a “Lady Godiva” hot cocktail and a baker's dozen of “topless” oysters in the bar while you wait. Then dive into creamy clam chowder, 10-ounce, butter-sweet Australian lobster tail and Ranchero center-cut top sirloin. There's plenty of key lime pie in the icebox and Phil Collins on the speakers. Either way, the place has a great beer selection, including a bevy of their own brews. The food is approachable American stuff that, coincidentally, goes pretty damn well with beer. And, according to the 2007 BoB Restaurants poll, it even has the Best Bread Basket around. Say yes to yeast. (Alibi Staff, August 11, 2010) View/Add Reviews [ 1 ] ![]() Doc & Eddy'sMon-Sat 11am- 2am

What you
will
find are pool tables, waitresses who are not dressed like strippers (TDs is across the parking lot if that’s what you’re after—it also airs UFC) and a kitchen staff that takes its job seriously. The Lobo burger is a thing of beauty, with smoked bacon sparring nicely with cheese and green chile. The fries are skin-on, and the legit red chile is medium spiced with the occasional fleck of coriander. Maybe everyone doesn’t know your name, but it’s pleasant and friendly—even to Brock Lesnar fans. (Alibi Staff, December 23, 2010) Add a Review At first glance, The Fox and Hound is your typical sports bar, hip-hop music blasting, TVs blaring, and pretty waitresses bustling. But one glance at the extensive menu is all it takes to clue you in that it is a fine restaurant as well. Unlike the usual fried piece of beer sponge that you get at most sports bars, the menu offers more elegant dishes like blackened mahi-mahi. That being said, Nexus beat out stalwart area breweries at the 2011 NM IPA Challenge. There are nine styles featured on tap, including standouts IPA, ESB, cream and Belgian white. The brewery is attracting quite a following, both for the beer and as a “New Mexican soul food” gastropub. The menu offers specialties of Southern-fried po’boys and the delicious marriage of chicken and waffles. It’s just the place to take your corn-bread-and-Frito-pie-craving friends while still getting your craft beer fix. And there’s live music, too. Nexus has bands booked several nights a week. (Alibi Staff, July 12, 2011) Add a Review Add a Review Albuquerque - Nob HillGecko’s has a killer patio in a corner of Nob Hill that’s perfect for people-watching. Set directly between La Montañita Co-op and Scalo, you’ll be sure to bump into folks you know as you’re sipping a cocktail and enjoying tidbits from the affordably priced tapas menu. (Alibi Staff, August 11, 2010) Add a Review A bar you can smoke in! Imbibe is an über-trendy cigar lounge with backlit smoke-tendril art and contemporary seating. There are hordes of annoying knockoff-clad barflies as far as the eye can see, but the humidor is well-stocked and well-attended by knowledgeable staff, and there’s a rooftop deck (if you can make it up there; there’s always a line). Get there early for the best seats. (Alibi Staff, August 11, 2010) View/Add Reviews [ 1 ] Besides the late-night menus (the kitchen stays open until 11 p.m., but food isn’t the strength here) and 20-odd house-brewed beers (the Best Beer Selection, according to 2007’s BoB Restaurants poll), Kelly's has an enormous, dog-friendly patio that somehow manages to be packed to the elbows, lively and laid-back all at the same time. Snag a spot by the rails for the best people-watching in Nob Hill. Get the sweet potato fries. (Alibi Staff, August 11, 2010) View/Add Reviews [ 3 ] Monte Vista Fire StationDinner menu:

Mon 2pm-midnight (subject to change) With sometimes too-loud live music and a party-hard crowd, it’s usually best to avoid this place on the weekends. But stop in for a late lunch or weeknight burger and a beer, and you’ll get a different experience. The beef here is grass-fed, New Mexico-grown, and steroid- and antibiotic-free, and the cooks at Monte Vista deserve praise for what they do with it. The freshly ground burgers are juicy and big, the steak frites hit the spot, and the beef skewers are tender and one of the best deals on cow in town. And if you do brave the weekend crowd, you’ll be rewarded by bowls of mussels served with your choice of several sauces, including coconut curry, Mexican and classic French. Served with a grilled baguette to soak up a small sea of broth, it’s a great way to fill a belly for $10. (Alibi Staff, December 23, 2010) Add a Review |
