The sushi chef at Loving Vegan rolls sushi expertly, and if you squint your eyes, the fake shrimp, scallops, salmon and squid look exactly like “normal” sushi. They’re also pretty delicious. Try the bento box with miso soup, small salads (cucumber-seaweed and green leaves in a gingery dressing) and pan-fried spinach gyoza. We recommend the grilled portobello bento with vegetables, accompanied with thin, tender-crisp asparagus and a fat ring of onion on pleasantly glutinous, lightly seasoned brown rice.

The Thai Vegan menu includes fake shrimp, chicken, fish and pepper steak. That said, it isn’t the vegetarian faux meats that makes the place so good, but rather the fact that the cooks really know what they’re doing as they whip up their vegan delights. The Thai iced tea (yup, that’s vegan too) is like sipping Bangkok through a straw. (Alibi Staff, April 10, 2013)

Ayurvedic cuisine works with your body’s natural energies and constitution to create “soul” food that’s on a whole new plane. Winners of Best Vegetarian in our poll several years running, Annapurna is the devoted to vegan and vegetarian cuisine. The food is satisfying but never heavy and, well, you just feel better after you eat there. Try Sunday brunch from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. with spiced gluten-free, vegan pancakes and breakfast quinoa. Annapurna has moved their award-winning menu to the new 4th St location south of Osuna. Check out the Chi Happy hour for 50% off a cup of chai from 3-5 pm daily.

The Thai Vegan menu includes fake shrimp, chicken, fish and pepper steak. That said, it isn’t the sophistication of vegetarian faux meats that makes the place so good. It’s amazing because the cooks really know what they’re doing, and they use quality ingredients. The Thai iced tea (yup, that’s vegan too) is like sipping Bangkok through a straw. Check out their other location at 3804 Central Ave SE.

Body Café is the dining side of Body of Santa Fe, a gym and spa with all the trimmings. The ingredients are wheat-, dairy-, and sugar-free. And 90% of the ingredients are organic. The extensive veg menu also caters to omnivores with dishes such as a tower of quinoa with its seared tuna, brunoise carrots, curried potatoes, and a sesame-and-fruit salsa. Liquids take up half the menu with herbal elixirs, straight-up juices, and smoothies made with coconut milk and fruit. Kick back with organic wine, beer and saké. (Alibi Staff, December 6, 2012)
