![]() | Restaurants in Albuquerque, Santa Fe and Northern New Mexico near Guild Cinema Albuquerque - Nob HillThe phrase “grocery café” typically conjures visions of orangey heat lamp chicken and Chinese food that’s been marinating in a pool of grease since the Yang Dynasty. Fortunately for us, La Montañita Co-op is not your typical grocery store. Specializing in local, organic and otherwise natural food products, the deli is no exception and doesn’t disappoint in taste or selection. The deli folks will make a hearty sandwich to your liking—or pick up a quick pint of one of the tasty hot or cold spreads and salads. For a delicious vegan dessert, stick with the chocolate Amazon cake, layered with luscious, fudge frosting. Sat 9 am- 5pm (subject to change) Full review: Limonata Italian Street Food Caffe (12/6/2012) This sunny café occupies the sweet spot in The Village at Silver and Wellesley vacated by Café Giuseppe. Giuseppe regulars will be happy to know Limonata still offers killer espresso, now paired with a large array of mouth-slavering Italian treats. Try the prosciutto panino, the antipasto platter for two, or stock up on authentic Italian groceries in the market. (Alibi Staff, December 10, 2012) Add a Review Mannie’s is a little neighborhood diner that’s actually quite big. You’re sure to see someone you know if you eat at Mannie’s for breakfast on the weekend. People go for the pancakes, the homemade muffins, the French toast and, of course, to see and be seen. Mannie’s has a marvelous BLT with thick slabs of bacon, a nest of shredded lettuce and a generous slathering of mayo. Then you’ll run into the whimsical items like green tea-custard twisted milk buns. Each day of the week, Mean Bao features a different delectable. There are Tart Tuesdays, Whoopie Pie Wednesdays, Green Tea Thursdays, Frosting-Fix Fridays. It’s closed Mondays, so plan accordingly. Closed Sunday (subject to change) There are more members of AARP than UNM students at this University-area lunch counter, but it has nothing to do with the food. There are also vastly more women than men filling the tables, though that’s more understandable. After all, half of the building is dedicated to fancy soaps, hairbrushes, jewelry and perfumes. But this pharmacy (which doesn’t take insurance and therefore fills few prescriptions) is full of mysterious contrasts and pleasant surprises. The mostly-sandwich menu is far above par, with real roasted turkey breast and house-made brisket, and Model has the Best Soda Fountain in Albuquerque, according to our readers. Mon 2pm-midnight (subject to change) With sometimes too-loud live music and a party-hard crowd, it’s usually best to avoid this place on the weekends. But stop in for a late lunch or weeknight burger and a beer, and you’ll get a different experience. The beef here is grass-fed, New Mexico-grown, and steroid- and antibiotic-free, and the cooks at Monte Vista deserve praise for what they do with it. The freshly ground burgers are juicy and big, the steak frites hit the spot, and the beef skewers are tender and one of the best deals on cow in town. And if you do brave the weekend crowd, you’ll be rewarded by bowls of mussels served with your choice of several sauces, including coconut curry, Mexican and classic French. Served with a grilled baguette to soak up a small sea of broth, it’s a great way to fill a belly for $10. Nob Hill Bar and Grill boasts meatloaf (crowned with smoked bacon) and burgers (American kobe). Available for private parties evenings and weekends (subject to change) Cuisine: French P’tit Louis’ new Nob Hill digs are a collaboration between Christophe Descarpentries, John Phinizy and a new partner: Tom White of Il Vicino and Two Fools Tavern. Descarpentries has a knack for building Paris from scratch. The restaurant on Gold transports you to Paris of the ’20s. P’tit Louis on Silver more resembles a stop along the outskirts, a perfect village bistro at the turn of the century. The menu welcomes diners to many of the Downtown bistro’s popular dishes, but there are some new choices as well. Descarpentries will continue the practice of daily specials. Nob Hill diners will have the added pleasure of dinner hours Thursday through Saturday and, when weather permits, alfresco dining on the patio. Special private seatings are still available on other evenings. There’s sushi, sashimi and nigiri, and the soft shell crab rolls are a treat worth mentioning a couple of times. The best part is watching your food get made right in front of you and then floated around the table on an armada of wooden boats. (Alibi Staff, August 11, 2010) Add a Review On the streets of Asia, vendors often specialize in one dish handed down through generations, preparing quick meals for passersby like hot noodle bowls, exotic sandwiches and spicy skewered satays. It’s a hotbed of cultural diversity including Vietnamese pho, Korean noodles, Japanese udon, and Malay and Chinese stir-fry. StreetFood Asia's menu offers a dizzying array of sauces, toppings, garnishes, meats, seafood, and vegetables in dinner portions or small plates in the heart of Nob Hill. Exotic bar drinks and an long list of excellent sakes adds sparkle to your meal. (Alibi Staff, July 12, 2011) Add a Review The Thai Vegan menu includes fake shrimp, chicken, fish and pepper steak. That said, it isn’t the sophistication of vegetarian faux meats that makes the place so good. It’s amazing because the cooks really know what they’re doing, and they use quality ingredients. The Thai iced tea (yup, that’s vegan too) is like sipping Bangkok through a straw. Their adjoined Opa Bar seats about 85 people and is open for lunch, dinner or just cocktails. Painted deep red, dimly lit and accented with lots of dark wood, the lounge provides a stark contrast to the bright, light and airy dining rooms at Yanni's. It’s an ideal place for pre- or post-movie cocktails and snacks, or more substantial cuisine. (Alibi Staff, August 11, 2010) Add a Review ![]() Zinc Wine Bar & BistroWeekend Brunch
