Use this heaping hunk of pillowy-crisp carbs to sop up the best posole, mutton stew and huevos rancheros in the North Valley. The dining room is walled with lustrous, ebony-adobe, and the tables are clothed in crisp, black and white linens. By the glass or bottle, there’s plenty of quality hooch. The menu is classic steakhouse stuff, with beef tournedos in a silky demi-glace, fresh fish and a damn fine veal Oscar. A few years after being ousted from its nearly decade-long home in Nob Hill, O'Niell's Pub has migrated east up Central and reopened in a new (but reassuringly familiar) space. All the old standouts like fish and chips and the “Burger in Paradise” are still here and as good as they ever were. Tractor Brewing's O'Niell's Irish Red is a perfectly balanced beer drunk by itself or with everything from chicken wings to chocolate cake. They're comforting, a little cheeky and unapologetically Irish-American. Just like O'Niell's Pub. (Alibi Staff, August 11, 2010) Add a Review Albuquerque - Old TownChurch Street CaféCuisine: New Mexican This warm and welcoming café occupies one of the oldest houses in Albuquerque. Look for it behind the San Felipe de Neri Church and don’t miss out on the enchiladas, adovada or tamales. There’s posole with your choice of red or green chile, and the Navajo taco is
delicioso!
We won’t tell anyone if you wolf down a few sopaipillas drenched in honey. (Alibi Staff, August 11, 2010) View/Add Reviews [ 1 ] This Old Town favorite offers something to suit most appetites, from green chile cheese burgers to rock shrimp pappardelle, and it’s all served up in the adobe warmth of a 200-year-old hacienda. Don’t skip the drinks: Their
tradicional
margarita is the best in town. (Alibi Staff, April 14, 2011) Add a Review In addition to an upscale selection of booze, the cozy and modern Q Bar serves a brief but pleasantly appetizing menu of nibbles and noshes. The dishes are small enough to make good snacks and expensive enough to keep them that way—you'd have to spend more than you'd like in order to really fill up. There are heaters up there for chilly nights, the courtyard fountain provides a calming gurgle, the view of the mountains is great and the happy hour menu has outstanding dishes at more than reasonable prices. Certainly it has the dining room with the most formal service—you know, tuxedos and golden-domed plates and all—but with live music and expertly crafted cocktails, the resplendent bar is also worth your time. This is the place we like to go for really special occasions—like when someone else is paying or when we want to break a hunger strike. Closed Sunday (subject to change) Get ready to drop some serious dough on this place, but if anything will get you into someone’s pants, it’d be a meal here. This joint is cool, smooth and classy, the
foie gras and Kobe beef are tender and delicious and even the mac and cheese is fancy-schmantzy with a sprinkling of shaved black truffles. Have an excellent glass of wine, an order of oysters Marcello and don’t forget to lay on the charm. Your date (and your libido) will thank you for it. (1/6/2011) This sports bar on Coors just north of I-40, has got your UFC fix on TV along with some satisfying bar food options. The rack of basted barbecue ribs are juicy, tender and fatty. A mesquite chicken sandwich, served on a ciabatta bun, is tasty. And the oven-roasted turkey club with poblano pepper and grilled onions is a winner. (Alibi Staff, December 23, 2010) Add a Review BernalilloNot only do these people serve thick, meaty bacon, dreamy globs of queso and hot, buttery biscuits—because that would most certainly be enough on its own—but The Range Café in Bernalillo also happens to keep things interesting at night. Step into their Lizard Rodeo Lounge for free live music three or four nights a week, a full-service bar, nice atmosphere and a fine BLT. Thank you, Range people. (Alibi Staff, August 11, 2010) Add a Review Santa Ana PuebloSituated in an old adobe mansion with stunning views of the Sandia Mountains, Prairie Star is tailor-made for intimate special occasions. Bold New American dishes created by award-winning Executive Chef Heath VanRiper are as beautiful to behold as they are to eat and go down flawlessly with selections from the
Wine Spectator-
honored cellar. Be wowed by the giant scallops, rabbit relleno and to-die-for pecan pie. The new wine bar alone is worth the trip. (Alibi Staff, August 11, 2010) Add a Review Santa FeThis is another one of our all-time Santa Fe favorites. We go for Spanish-style tapas in one of the quiet dining rooms; Chef James Cambell Caruso (who briefly owned Stars Café in Albuquerque) does wonders with shrimp and garlic. Sometimes we stop in for a late-night drink and some entertainment in the lively bar up front. Whether it's a flamenco guitarist and dancers or a Western swing band, the bar is always fun.
