Step back in time for old-fashioned diner food and atmosphere with a New Mexican twist (incarnate in the hot-and-spicy Frito pie). The real stars in this place, though, are the awesome frozen desserts. They run the gamut from mammoth banana splits to 99-cent teeny-weeny hot fudge sundaes. The milkshakes come in almost any flavor combination you can think of and are some of the creamiest, most lip-smacking concoctions around. Voted Best Milkshakes for 2013. In the front, it's a standard restaurant laid out with a small bar and big window facing the street. Travel a short way through a blacklit hall and enter the kind of divey neighborhood hangout this city needs more of, complete with TVs, a jukebox, a ping-pong table, air hockey and arcade games. Though the entire menu is available no matter where you choose to spend your time, you can't go wrong with the twisty-crust pizza. Caroline the bartender makes the meanest Lemondrops and non-blended Margaritas around. Suck back one of her Bloody Marys, too, which she makes extra spicy with Sriracha rooster sauce. This sports bar on Coors just north of I-40, has got your UFC fix on TV along with some satisfying bar food options. The rack of basted barbecue ribs are juicy, tender and fatty. A mesquite chicken sandwich, served on a ciabatta bun, is tasty. And the oven-roasted turkey club with poblano pepper and grilled onions is a winner. (Alibi Staff, December 23, 2010)

Archetypal mountain log cabin steakhouse, breakfast joint and bar. (In olden times, they’d be a dry goods store too.) Solid comfort food and gringo-friendly New Mexican cuisine (i.e., not too spicy) with atmosphere to spare. (Alibi Staff, December 23, 2010)
