A Downtown standard in a new location. The restaurant’s lengthy menu boasts down-home Turkish, Mediterranean and Asian eats. The baba ghanoush is flavorful and nicely accented with a sprinkling of sumac. (Alibi Staff, July 12, 2011)

Once your lunch or dinner at the upscale Artichoke Café has concluded, you’ve got to adjourn to the sexy new Wine Bar next door. The wine list is actually a leather-bound tome with a massive assortment of wines. Prices start at a decent $28 or $30 a bottle and zoom up into the upper stratospheres of frivolity, but you can also order select vintages by the half-bottle or glass. You'll love the front-facing "big city" windows, curvy wooden bar and comfortable seats. It’s open until 11 p.m. on the weekends, but beware: The kitchen stops serving at 10 p.m. No matter. It’s got one hell of a breadbasket, and, as our server once suggested, "You can fill up on the wine!" Don't mind if we do! (Alibi Staff, August 11, 2010)

This is the spot for satisfying pre- or post-movie cravings, with a menu that stretches across the Asian continent. Think pho and pad Thai with a side of Japanese cold sesame noodles. Inside, it’s clean, classy and calm, and open until 11pm on the weekends. (Alibi Staff, August 11, 2010)

4.6 rating (44 votes)
You’d better get to Barelas early on Saturday morning if you don’t want to wait in line for a table. This homey New Mexican joint is popular, and though it’s much bigger inside than you can tell from the street, regulars pack the place tighter than a tamale. Barelas is known for huevos rancheros, and they are tasty here, slathered in particularly good red chile and served on a fresh flour tortilla. (Alibi Staff, August 11, 2010)

The Brew makes a lasting mark with its comfortable seating, low-key, classy vibe and superior beverage menu. Our favorites include the green tea latte, the red chile mocha and the cortado—a drink like a concentrated latté. (Alibi Staff, November 21, 2013)

Taking over the spot formerly occupied by Nick’s Crossroads Café, this new-kid-on-the-block offers breakfast, lunch and dinner with a side of hip swagger. The items range from a typical breakfast burrito, smothered in local chilé, to a ribeye steak. If you’re particularly hungry in the AM, check out the stack of nutso hot cakes. They come with grilled bananas, peanut butter, roasted almonds, molasses and maple syrup. (Alibi Staff, May 14, 2014)

Café Lush is like a daydream of the way things might be in some future hybrid of Europe and Albuquerque. It’s an urban café on a quiet street corner, with a small menu of simple, yet well-crafted, dishes and a pledge to use local, seasonal and organic ingredients whenever possible. But unlike in Europe, the red and green chile won’t disappoint. (Alibi Staff, November 17, 2011)

In addition to the standard restaurant seating at the Hotel Andaluz, patrons can reserve the courtyard Casbahs for an ecclectic dining experience. (Alibi Staff, December 17, 2014)

(505) 243-7070
Mon -Fri 7 am-2 pm Sat-Sun 7 am-3 pm (hours can change without notice)
Meals Served: BreakfastLunch

2.55 rating (31 votes)
This little restaurant clings close to the heart of Downtown on Sixth Street and Silver, and the food is actually made by Cecilia herself in the kitchen. The tacos, burritos and enchiladas are traditional, tasty and pretty friggin’ cheap, too. The red chile packs a wallop, and Cecilia’s is even open on Sundays. (Alibi Staff, August 11, 2010)

Cheese & Coffee's Downtown location is spacious and warm, with some 20 sandwich choices including a triple-decker club, a gyro or a French dip awaiting the hungry diner. The Sicilian sandwich, a pepperoni, capicolla and mozzarella concoction on French bread, and a side of red chile posole (available every Tuesday) are excellent. Try a slice of house-baked lemon cake with cream cheese frosting, moist and springy, with just enough lemon to offset the rich cream cheese frosting.

Throw down about $6 at this New Mexican joint and you’ll get more red chile pork stew than you can eat in two sittings (we know, we tried). Make it $9 and a plate of carne adovada taquitos will fill your belly with a flavorful Southwestern zing, and they’ll be accompanied by some of the best sopaipillas in town (and real honey to douse them in). The place, tucked into a quiet strip center off of Fourth Street, is a bit hard to find, but well worth the effort. (Alibi Staff, January 30, 2014)

In the heart of Downtown Albuquerque, on the Historic Route 66, a third wave café emerges. Deep Space Coffee is especially focused on quality and experience. These caffeine astronauts are specialty coffee enthusiasts striving to deliver perfection with each request. They love to discover all the specialty coffee lovers that find themselves in the Duke City. Chocolate, baked yummies and other decadent delights pair perfectly with the java in your cup.

Meals Served: LunchDinner

Sometimes we're so anxious for a double green chile cheeseburger, we dig in without even washing our hands. That's how tantalizing this food is! The flashing sign beckons us to hot dog mecca, where we indulge in not only dogs but the essential tater tots and Frito pie. Get your dogs to go and race home so you can enjoy them with a few brews. Or go inside the Dog House and find a seat at the tiny counter, then nurse that sweaty tongue of yours with a milkshake. (Alibi Staff, August 11, 2010)

This cute, Italian-styled café is tucked between Gold Street Caffé and Le Troquet in one of Downtown’s most desirable dining districts. The rest of the place follows suit with bello hand-pressed espresso (tea, too), paninis and other Euro-centric treats. (Alibi Staff, July 12, 2011)

Farina Pizzeria & Wine Bar

510 Central Ave SE (Downtown)
Albuquerque NM 87102
(505) 243-0130

Mon: 11am-9pm Tues-Fri: 11am-10pm Sat: Noon-10pm Sun: 5-9pm (hours can change without notice)
Meals Served: LunchDinner
Cuisine: Pizza, Fine Dining

4.07 rating (111 votes)
Across Edith from the Artichoke Café, Farina’s proximity to some of the most established fine dining in Albuquerque isn't an accident. Farina is the punked-up younger sibling of jazzy Artichoke Café, and it brings a tantalizingly direct message to the neighborhood: pizza, beer and wine, and all of it damn good. Sharp, concise and to the point, with 20 superb choices offered by the glass or bottle. Farina’s wine list is straightforward and focused. The bar is comfortable and every wine is perfectly matched to the kitchen’s chic pizzeria offerings. (Alibi Staff, August 11, 2010)

Firenze Wood Oven Pizzeria

900 Park Ave SW (Downtown)
Albuquerque NM 87102
242-2939
www.firenzemobilepizza.com
Tuesday - Saturday 11am to 8pm (hours can change without notice)
Cuisine: Pizza, Italian

5 rating (5 votes)
You never quite know how it’s going to turn out when a food truck puts down roots and starts servings its fare in a brick-and-mortar establishment. Firenze Pizzeria is hedging its bets by keeping the mobile wood oven that won the hearts and appetites of Burqueños all over town, while establishing itself as Downtown’s only gourmet pizza shop. So far, the experiment seems to be a success, though we can’t help but think that a liquor license could only add to their appeal. (Alibi Staff, June 25, 2014)

Flying Star Café

Winner of Best Casual Dining, Best Veggie Burger, Best Toast, Best Healthy Breakfast and Best Desserts in our 2008 restaurant poll. Sure, you go in thinking you’ll be good and get a skinny latte, scrambled egg whites and a side of turkey and green chile sausage, but five minutes later somebody’s saying “eclair” and the voice is coming from your mouth.
