Chef Kimberly Calvo now owns the Seasonal Palate food truck where she dishes up some of the best grub in town. Wednesdays you can usually find her at the Talin Market parking lot, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. where I regularly seek out her oyster or shrimp po' boys with a side of fries. But her variable menu features other delicacies including Thai green curry, a savory chicken salad, and falafel served with house-made tzatziki. In a storefront at The Pavilions at San Mateo, right off of I-40, Bliss is a refreshingly charming sandwich spot with an emphasis on local ingredients and made-from-scratch everything. The green chile Philly makes excellent use of rib eye steak and Wagner Farms green chile. Vegetarians are well cared for with sandwiches like the “Jiminy's criminy” and a veggie burger with heavenly hummus. There are also giant breakfast burritos, soups, salads and daily specials. Paddy Rawal's OM: Fine Indian Dining has just moved into the space vacated by Annapurna. Their menu features primarily Northern Indian fare with touches of the Southwest, such as in their chipotle-spiked grilled shrimp. This should add some new spice for North Valley diners. The Thai Vegan menu includes fake shrimp, chicken, fish and pepper steak. That said, it isn’t the sophistication of vegetarian faux meats that makes the place so good. It’s amazing because the cooks really know what they’re doing, and they use quality ingredients. The Thai iced tea (yup, that’s vegan too) is like sipping Bangkok through a straw.
