This pizza is so good it’s certified. There aren’t many places in ABQ to get real Neapolitan pizza, but Amore’s owners are officially endorsed by the Associazione Pizzaiuoli Napoletani. The pies feature house made mozzarella, dough and sauce. The salads are fresh and organic, and the rooftop patio is open in fair weather. That’s Amore! (Alibi Staff, October 14, 2013)

Across Edith from the Artichoke Café, Farina’s proximity to some of the most established fine dining in Albuquerque isn't an accident. Farina is the punked-up younger sibling of jazzy Artichoke Café, and it brings a tantalizingly direct message to the neighborhood: pizza, beer and wine, and all of it damn good. There’s also meatballs al forno (plump orbs studded with pine nuts in an acidic-sweet balsamic glaze), a few gourmet salads and a mammoth (in size and flavor) calzone. (Alibi Staff, August 11, 2010)

Firenze Wood Oven Pizzeria

900 Park Ave SW (Downtown)
Albuquerque NM
242-2939

Tuesday - Saturday 11am to 8pm (hours can change without notice)
Cuisine: Pizza, Italian

You never quite know how it’s going to turn out when a food truck puts down roots and starts servings its fare in a brick-and-mortar establishment. Firenze Pizzeria is hedging its bets by keeping the mobile wood oven that won the hearts and appetites of Burqueños all over town while establishing itself as Downtown’s only gourmet pizza shop. So far, the experiment seems to be a success, though we can’t help but think that a liquour license could only add to their appeal. (Alibi Staff, June 25, 2014)

Get your late-night pizza fix and a pint on Downtown’s favorite patio. It makes a perfect vantage point for people-watching on the weekends. The back room is stocked with vintage ’80s tabletop arcade games, several beers on tap, flat-screen TVs and a discreet outdoor patio. Just wander back through the parking lot to the north of the existing NYPD, or spread out in the expanded front room. (Alibi Staff, August 11, 2010)

Besides having the Best Pizza, according to past Best of Burque Restaurants polls, Dion's also has a wonderful selection of salads (particularly the Greek or any of the “gourmet” salads with microgreens) and sandwiches (the pastrami is especially good). The pizza is made fresh and you can see them rolling and tossing the dough. Dine in or order takeout. (Alibi Staff, August 11, 2010)

Il Vicino’s thin-crusted, gourmet-topped pizzas are perennial favorites among Alibi readers, but the house-brewed beers are equally popular. Order at the register and a server brings the food to your table, making weekday lunches speedy. The open kitchen gives you something to stare at while you wait. Stop in for a quick lunch or a late afternoon microbrew at one of the patio tables. (Alibi Staff, August 11, 2010)

Brick-oven pizza may have come to us from California, but they do it pretty well here in New Mexico. Well, at Scarpa’s, anyway. The chicken Caesar pizza is genius, with white cream sauce and a salad right on top of the pie. And if the pizzas don’t get you going, there’s homemade pasta and yummy minestrone. Perhaps the best thing on the menu is the torta dessert—a mountain of puff pastry, baked apples and cinnamon ice cream. Dive in with a demitasse of fresh espresso. (Alibi Staff, August 11, 2010)

New location! One of you wants pizza, another insists on soup and salad, the third won’t eat anything but pasta. Don’t waste time fighting; just get on over to Tomato Cafe. It’s quick, inexpensive and all-you-can-eat. Those aren’t usually words you’d use to describe genuinely good food but the pizza here is. Super-thin-crusted and topped with things like feta, basil, barbecued chicken and artichoke hearts, it’s a dream come true (except for Chicago-style fans). (Alibi Staff, August 11, 2010)

You can bank on getting good pie here. From plain old cheese to the "super combo"—pepperoni, sliced ham, mushrooms, green peppers, red onions, black olives, beef, pork sausage and Italian sausage—all is well. Amadeo's makes them up to 26 inches across. The subs rate just as high. Toasted rolls, baked locally, are stuffed with your choice of meat (salami, ham, meatballs and so on), cheese and veggies. The meatballs are totally boss. Not too heavy with an almost silky texture, they come drowned in a spicy tomato sauce and smothered in mozzarella cheese. Closed Sunday. 4.03 rating (12 votes)
In addition to some of the best N.Y.-style crust, sauce and toppings in town, this family-run pizza joint houses arcade classics Centipede, Gauntlet and R-Type. J.J.'s also boasts hot, New Mexico-grown green chile (as it should), jumbo cheese ravioli for about six bucks, calzones, hot subs and buffalo thighs. Forget wings. These thighs are enormous and juicy. Plus, the recipe-makers have really put some love into their gluten-free crust. (Alibi Staff, August 11, 2010)

Really, it's all about the crust. A slice of pizza, no matter what its style, should stand on its own without the help of heaps of toppings. Venezia's New York-style slice ($2) does just that, right down to the last bit of carbohydrate crunch. You can add lots of the usual toppings (30 cents each) and some better-than-usual ones, like fresh garlic, fresh tomatoes and artichoke hearts. Thick-crusted, deep-dish, Sicilian-style pizza is available in one size, 12-inch by 16-inch ($12). The owner’s mother (who is from Italy) even gets in on the act with her famous marinara sauce; delicious, smooth-textured meatballs; chicken and eggplant Parmesan for heroes; and pasta dishes like meat lasagna and baked ziti. Open until 10 p.m. weekdays. (Alibi Staff, August 11, 2010)
