Cuisine: American

You know what’s good here? The chicken. Also, the waffles. Ex-Lobo basketball player Frank Willis’s food may not be as famous as the hopeful restaurant’s name states, but that’s only because he’s just getting started. Willis and family know their way around a kitchen and serve up some great soul food, from the titular combo platter to cheese grits and beef hotlinks. (Alibi Staff, December 26, 2013)

Gen Kai

110B Louisiana Blvd NE (Fairgrounds)
Albuquerque NM
505-255-0112

4.5 rating (2 votes)
Rising up from the asphalt sea of the Talin Market parking lot, Gen Kai is a Japanese restaurant that offers an oasis from the heat and chaos of the International District. Sushi is on hand, naturally, and salt brothed ramen, but the real star here are the donburi bowls. Our favorite is the oyako don, in which dashi-soaked rice is topped with a fried combination of chicken and egg, with two forms of onion: bulb and green. (Alibi Staff, May 21, 2014)

Suzie and Daniel Baca, former managers of La Fonda del Bosque, own and operate this hole-in-the-wall New Mexican restaurant. (Alibi Staff, November 21, 2013)

Albuquerque - Southeast

Azteca Chinese

200 Wyoming Blvd SE (Southeast)
Albuquerque NM
268*1730
11am-9pm every day. (hours can change without notice)
Cuisine: Chinese, Mexican

A Mexican-Chinese restaurant seems like a strange phenomenon until you consider the fact that many Chinese restaurants employ workers of Mexican origin in their kitchens. Azteca offers both cuisines, though, disappointingly, there’s no fusion here but rather two sepearte menus. We suggest skipping the lackluster Chinese and sticking with the flavorful and authentic Mexican street food. Note: Cash only! (Alibi Staff, December 26, 2013)
