There’s only one thing that “R” U Cereal specializes in, and I bet you can guess what it is. The $5.99 all-you-can-eat cereal buffet features about 30 varieties of everyone’s favorite quick-and-easy breakfast—from Cocoa Puffs to Special K to Cap’n Crunch. Feel free to mix and match to your heart’s content. Then select a type of milk (skim for the healthy, chocolate for sugar fiends), a topping (strawberries, M&Ms, yogurt and many more) and settle in for a dose of Saturday morning nostalgia. Bring your own footie pajamas for the complete experience. (Alibi Staff, July 18, 2013)

Can delivery pizza be elevated to a work of art? The respondents to 2007’s Best of Burque Restaurants poll sure seem to think so—DaVinci’s was voted No. 1 in the Best Comfort Food and Best Undiscovered Gem categories. You can get your "canvas" covered in any number of gourmet toppings, from ricotta cheese to roasted red potatoes. Or get your pie festooned in pepperoni. It’s great any way you slice it. An upstart contender in the crowded UNM coffee-shop scene, this small, well-appointed space is great for cramming before finals or scarfing down a quick breakfast before the trek to school. So far, the main drawback seems to be that its location—wedged between a laundromat and a piñata store—is just about impossible to find. Fortunately, a new sign helps to solve that problem. Is it a coffee shop that also serves as a club house for local Indie filmmakers? Or a is it a club house for local Indie filmmakers that also serves coffee? It’s hard to say, but it’s certainly an interesting concept. Even if the atmosphere reminds you of hanging out in an office break room, the coffee is good and the owner whips up a mean plate of huevos rancheros with great super-hot chile. And if you’ve ever wanted to be plugged into the local filmmaker scene, hanging out here is probably a great first step. (Alibi Staff, February 6, 2014)

Kabab House

301 Cornell Dr SE (University)
Albuquerque NM
312-8949
Nearby Theater: SUB Theater (See Film Times)

5 rating (2 votes)
Don’t let the tacky Bud Light signs fool you (or the fact that the restaurant’s name is spelled three different ways on them), this cozy little cafe serves up some great and authentic Persian food. The titular kabobs are as good as you could hope for—especially the bone-in lamb—and staff is friendly and eager to guide you to the best parts of the menu. Watch out for the salted yogurt drink doogh, though—Westerners might not be prepared for its grimace-inducing pungency. (Alibi Staff, February 20, 2014)

It can be surprisingly difficult to find good Mexican food (not New Mexican) in the University area, but Sombrero’s seems poised to change that. Even better, not only does it feature mouth-wateringly authentic fare like carne asada tacos, but the menu has a surprsingly robust and inventive hamburger selection. If you find yourself overwhelmed with the choice between a Pancho Villa and a Zapata burger, you can always go for the Whole Hog. It has everything on it, from green chile to onion strings to bacon to blackberry jam. Yes, you read that right: blackberry jam. (Alibi Staff, February 20, 2014)
