Winner of Best Casual Dining, Best Veggie Burger, Best Toast, Best Healthy Breakfast and Best Desserts in our restaurant polls. Sure, you go in thinking you’ll be good and get a skinny latte, scrambled egg whites and a side of turkey and green chile sausage, but five minutes later somebody’s saying “eclair” and the voice is coming from your mouth. But, boy, do they taste good. (Alibi Staff, August 11, 2010)

Vegetarian, raw and/or vegan items are the mainstay of this grass-green truck. There’s a changing menu of hot sandwiches, raw desserts, smoothies and a few surprising offerings (like pulled BBQ jackfruit tacos). “Not the old brown hippie food from the seventies,” the Facebook page announces. “Neon food from the future of eating, priced so everyone can come back twenty or thirty times a month.” (Alibi Staff, October 12, 2012)

The old home of Pearl's Dive has a new lease on life. Brainchild of local band The Dirty Novels, the Blackbird has been appropriately rock ’n’ rolled with excellent music, black-clad waitresses and a cool look. There are an impressive number of draft and bottled beers, and a few nice wines by the glass, which are fan-freaking-tastic on the back patio. By the way, "buvette" (boo-vet) is a loose French translation for "refreshment bar." Now you’re really in the know.

This ray of sunshine in Huning Highland serves gourmet breakfast and lunch, sells house-made English muffins, and has a mini-shop filled with goodies like honey, jams, mustards and vinegars, not to mention non-edibles like cook books, serving vessels and cards. A tiny wine list is just as chic—five reds and five whites are marked on a chalkboard, and all are constantly changing. This list is extremely well thought-out and offers a sampling of some of the most esoteric varietals and brands available in Albuquerque. There’s also a large, shaded patio, incredible house-made cupcakes and too-cute French macarons.

Marble Brewery opened its doors in the spring of 2008, and since then it’s become a favorite haunt of Burque beer fans. Go in for a flight—10 little glasses of every beer on tap—and taste the meticulously brewed rainbow, each beer distinct and complex. Six-packs, bombers, growlers and kegs are good to go. This old-school sandwich emporium won 2007’s categories for Best Sandwich and Best Soup. It prepares satisfying hot and cold hoagies at a decent price, with a chocolate chip cookie thrown in at no extra charge. The "sundown" is a staple for chronic dine-’n’-drivers; basically a turkey dinner in sandwich form, complete with stuffing and cranberry sauce. Try it on toasted whole wheat or sourdough instead of the standard roll, which quickly becomes too soggy to eat while steering, talking on your cell phone and jotting down the appointment you just made in your BlackBerry. Gecko’s has expanded with a popular Northeast Heights location—housed in a building that looks like a jukebox, for some reason. Even though it’s clear across town, you’ll still probably bump into folks you know as you’re sipping a wicked Bloody Mary and enjoying tidbits from the affordably priced tapas menu. Il Vicino’s taproom has reopened with a vengeance at its new location. There is now plenty of room (both to sit and park), and you can chow on a sandwich or a big hot pretzel while you sip your Wet Mountain IPA. (Alibi Staff, April 14, 2011)

The focus at Nexus is on balanced, drinkable beers that don’t smash customers in the mouth by a hop assault. That being said, Nexus beat out stalwart area breweries at the 2011 NM IPA Challenge. There are nine styles featured on tap, including standouts IPA, ESB, cream and Belgian white. The brewery is attracting quite a following, both for the beer and as a “New Mexican soul food” gastropub. The menu offers specialties of Southern-fried po’boys and the delicious marriage of chicken and waffles. It’s just the place to take your corn-bread-and-Frito-pie-craving friends while still getting your craft beer fix. And there’s live music, too. Nexus has bands booked several nights a week. Sure, you go in thinking you’ll be good and get a skinny latte, scrambled local egg whites and a side of turkey and green chile sausage, but five minutes later somebody’s saying “milkshake” and the voice is coming from your mouth. Besides the late-night menus (the kitchen stays open until 11 p.m., but food isn’t the strength here) and 20-odd house-brewed beers (the Best Beer Selection, according to 2007’s BoB Restaurants poll), Kelly's has an enormous, dog-friendly patio that somehow manages to be packed to the elbows, lively and laid-back all at the same time. Snag a spot by the rails for the best people-watching in Nob Hill. Get the sweet potato fries. (Alibi Staff, August 11, 2010)

Flying Star’s blueberry buttermilk pancakes are a guaranteed silver bullet for your behemoth-sized sweet tooth. They’re friggin’ enormous, fluffy and filling, and at about $2.30 a pop, a little frivolous. But you’re worth the extra pennies, aren’t you, sweetie pie? Throw in a side of green chile turkey sausage and a beautiful North Valley patio, and your crudo is history. (Alibi Staff, August 11, 2010)

The space has high ceilings that remind us of a ski lodge bar, with an upscale feeling but less colorful sweaters. You'd never know it shares a wall with Uptown Sports Bar. ABQ Brew Pub’s kitchen boasts black cultured mussels in court-bouillon fumé, steaks with Chimayó chile rub and cheesecake with crème de cassis sauce. Ten taps host Sierra Blanca / Rio Grande offerings, available in 10-, 16-, or 22-ounce glasses ($3.25, $4 and $5.50). Four-ounce samplers go for $1 each. All the sizes fit nicely on high-tech, built-in coasters that keep drinks frosty. (Alibi Staff, December 23, 2010)
