The pulled pork at Rudy’s makes us drool like dogs under the dinner table. Heaped up between two slices of pillowy white bread and kissed with sauce, the beef and pork ribs are absolute hog heaven. Rudy’s dining room takes “spartan” to a new level, but as the weather improves, so does our opinion of sitting out on their covered patio. Now serving breakfast tacos with your choice of Rudy’s justifiably famous meats. (Alibi Staff, August 11, 2010)

Very Good. Best brisket I have ever had. Interesting concept for a restaurant. Think cafateria style seating. It works. The sauce on the pulled pork is a honey mustard south carolina style sauce that is very true to it's roots. Great smoke ring on the brisket and TENDER! The best creamed corn EVER!!!

Doggone Near To The REAL Texas BBQ Experience [ Fri Jan 22 2010 7:29 PM ]

I spent a considerable amount of time in the Austin, TX area in the 80's. I must admit that I was plain and simply amazed and humbled by the way these folks fix, cook and serve their BBQ items. Simplicity, and top notch ingredients are the the key. Slow cooking and low heat makes for a mouth-watering culinary orgasm, YES I *said that*.
These here folks at Rudy's have done their homework, in all aspects, your dining experience will be a TRUE trip to Texas, without all of the BULL. It has to be the very best BBQ place in ABQ, and I am proud to put them in my top 10.

Baggies and horseradish at Rudy's [ Mon Sep 6 2010 11:52 AM ]

I don't know if all Rudy's locations are doing this, but the place on Carlisle has baggies over buy the onions and plastic ware that you can use for your leftovers. Great idea! I was always having to steal a container from the ice cream area, which seemed both unwelcome and wasteful.
My new trick (and some people think it's weird) is to bring in my own horseradish for the brisket. Brisket with BBQ sauce is ok, but brisket with horseradish… amazing!

Several months back my Dad called and asked me to have lunch with his college friend, a Vietnam vet, Louisiana native and Texas resident named Roy Butler. I hadn't seen him since I was eight, and didn't remember much about him. As it turns out, Roy owns a wood business and was driving around Colorado and New Mexico to check on Rudy's. He supplies oak to all of their stores, plus some other BBQ places in Texas. I thought it was great that the chain gets its wood from this guy, and that this guy found such an interesting and delicious business niche. Anyway, I'm not a big BBQ fan, but lunch at Rudy's was delicious.
