Two words: fry bread. Use this heaping hunk of pillowy-crisp carbs to sop up the best posole, mutton stew and huevos rancheros in the North Valley. Go check out what else they’re cooking up inside the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center.

These folks have had over 20 years to perfect their act, and alas they STILL HAVEN'T GOTTEN IT RIGHT! Most if not ALL of their so-called New Mexican/pueblo/Steak dishes are indeed a very very poor example of what our cuisine should be, I recently attended a luncheon at this facility, and found that the song remains the same, bland tasteless, over salted and plain a$$ed boring.
I urge you to avoid this place, in terms of highway robbery, price-wise and extremely poor quality food, rude and impersonal service.
Yes this is truly a SLOP-HOUSE! Avoid it at all costs.

Maybe it was because you ate some mass produced, banquet style meal, but the Pueblo Harvest Cafe has always been delicious when I've eaten there. And I have been there dozens of times since the remodeling/reopening. You say it's pricey? Compared to what? The Arby's next door? The portions have always been generous and the food tasty and creative. I have ordered almost everything on the dinner menu and have never had anything taste salty or over-salted (and I hate over salted). I will agree that there have been times when the service was lame and somewhat spotty (like just about every restaurant in this state, pricey or not), but the majority of my visits I've enjoyed attentive, knowledgeable service.
Give them another chance BigDaddyBrown. The dinner menu is a bit more extensive than the lunch and I admit I have never been to a luncheon/banquet there. If the menu seems too $$, trick someone else into picking up the check.

I hate it since the remodel. They changed a perfectly good thing and turned it into overpriced fare. They tried to get too fancy and completely ruined everything. My girl and I used to love to go there and order the Tewa Taco with a side of posole and now the Tewa taco is this huge hubcap sized taco with romaine freaking lettuce! It's terrible! They hired some German chef and fired all the actual Natives I heard. The place sucks. I hate it.

Are you not from this planet? This place should be called the Linda Lovelace wanna-be but quite can't get it up almost chili cafe. Why? Because it sucks! Come on! Bad is bad as is ugly is ugly to the bone, both you cannot fix.

Best Native American Food in the Duke City [ Thu Feb 3 2011 4:43 PM ]

"Great Museum Food" may seem like oxymoron to you, but I assure you that is not. I know of at least three museums/cultural centers where the food is much better than many restaurants serving similar cuisines. Two are here in Albuquerque (this one in the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center and the La Fonda del Bosque Cafe in the National Hispanic Cultural Center), and the third is the Mitsitam Cafe located in the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, DC. , which is simply superb (see my reviews of the other two on Urbanspoon).
I first went to this restaurant with Visiting Sister on her first visit to ABQ in November, 2008. We were shopping, of course, and stopped here for lunch. What a surprise! Great Carne Adovada, Tamales, and Fry Bread (first that VS ever had, and she's hooked). I came back for another solo lunch and had Red Chile Stew and Fry Bread, of course. Both were excellent. The stew was very tasty, complex, and only slightly piquant.
I returned with wife, Jane, and two dear friends for a pre-concert dinner just before Christmas, 2008. The full dinner was as good as those at the better Albuquerque restaurants, and better than many highly touted but otherwise disappointing places. The service was exemplary. The room is quite beautiful.
We returned for a Christmas concert in 2010 (Mary Youngblood), and my meal was an elk tenderloin served on blue corn pancakes with a sweet fig sauce. Excellent.
You should try this place. You, too, will be pleasantly surprised and delighted with your visit.
Spend some time looking through the exhibits and the shop, which is stocked with some stunning Native American jewelry and art at fair prices. We buy here. .
