I got takeout for Mother's Day breakfast [ Tue May 10 2011 3:30 PM ]

and didn't tip… because it was to go. The cashier seemed kind of mad and slammed my receipt down, then made me wait an extra ten minutes before telling the other guy that the food that had been sitting on the table the whole time was mine. And then they didn't give me my toast or my side of green chile. They were very busy and I'm probably just imagining things, but I do get the impression that it was no coincidence.

Just so you know...
You are supposed to tip on that to go order. I can promise you that cashier did more work than you would imagine on that order. I'm not saying to tip the full 20% that you would (if you aren't tipping that much, you need to be for good service), but 10% is a good starting point. Keep in mind that in NM, your friendly server is only being paid $2.13/hour. So, yes, those tips are actually important.

You are not going to change one's ideas
by calling them names...
..What if the person had no other money?
What if they are out of work?
I've had to borrow money to get a gallon
of gas to get somewhere..nothing left over.
...Weck's has very high prices for
the unemployed...At least the person
is paying...not stealing..
...I hope you become wiser...

Unlike the waitstaff, the cashiers get paid at least minimum wage as well as the cooks.
I only tip the cashier if they're extra friendly/helpful or I'm a regular.
Now, if it's counter service only (no waitstaff) and the cashier is also getting your food/drinks together, then I tip them. Maybe not 20% but at least 10%.
And yes, I've worked as a waitress and counter staffer for many years in my past.

When one is out of work and picking up pepsi
cans to recycle, how can one be expected to tip
a five dollar bill?...
I try to buy something fresh like corn, 3 for $1
etc to eat...
we need to stop the 2 wars in Iraq and Afghanistan that is killing this country..No
more killing, wounded or burn victims...
Maybe then we will have money to tip..
