This little restaurant clings close to the heart of Downtown on Sixth Street and Silver, and the food is actually made by Cecilia herself in the kitchen. The tacos, burritos and enchiladas are traditional, tasty and pretty friggin’ cheap, too. The red chile packs a wallop, and Cecilia’s is even open on Sundays. (Alibi Staff, August 11, 2010)

  • Consistently delicious  [ Tue Feb 12 2008 4:07 PM ]

and yet curiously inconsistent within its deliciousness. The red chile tastes different every time. Sometimes there's lettuce on top, sometimes not. Sometimes there's cheese on the beans, sometimes not. I'm not bitching, though. It's always good, and sometimes outstanding.

  • Okay  [ Tue Mar 11 2008 5:35 PM ]

Just went there this week and found it to be only okay. The food was nothing too incredible (I've had better here in NM) and to be honest the service was less than desirable.

  • I've been lucky  [ Tue Mar 11 2008 7:41 PM ]

Eaten there thrice and each time pretty solid. I like that red chile.

  • No thanks  [ Fri Mar 20 2009 3:10 PM ]

I always liked Cecilia's, even though I never thought the food was that great. Today, however, we got this waitress who obviously didn't like us. We were polite, but she was rude. Actually, I don't know if I've ever had a ruder waitress. Plus the food was kind of bad. The fry bread was stale and the chile was bland.

  • funny vibes  [ Fri Mar 20 2009 3:12 PM ]

in that place. I've had pretty good luck with the breakfast burritos, and they are reasonably priced. But I always get it to go.

  • ya know  [ Mon Mar 23 2009 10:35 AM ]

For some reason I always expect something to go wrong every time I'm in there but nothing ever does. For me they are pretty consistently good.

    No complaints.

  • rude staff, food sucks  [ Sat Mar 13 2010 10:32 AM ]

Will never go back. Have heard great things about this place but both times they effed up our order. They ignore you unless you are a regular and they offer next to no apology each time they screw up, which in my case was both times. I ordered a simple beef enchilada and they forgot to include beef so they came back out after I pointed it out and plopped down a small plate of beef, not like made a fresh plate that I asked for. The chile is pretty damn hot. We left next to no tip each time we visited because the service was so horrible, and we always tip well.

I understand the understatedness and being like in your grandma's kitchen, blah blah blah, but if I go out to eat I expect to get some sort of quality service. Intimate and small does not equal shitty.

  • Cecilia's Cafe | Albuquerque Restaurant Review | The Man Lunch  [ Wed Apr 14 2010 10:28 AM ]

After hearing rave reviews on Cecilia's Cafe (Diners, Drive-ins and Dives, 101 Chowdown Countdown), Manlunch decided we had to give it a try!

Upon entering the establishment, you knew it was going to be good since it is a little hole in the wall located in Downtown Albuquerque (6th and Silver to be exact).

Two of our Manlunch members ate hamburgers (it serves New Mexican food, go figure). From what I hear, the burgers were very good though.

Two of us ate the famous "Fireman's Burrito" It is a huge burrito made with the following top notch ingredients (Eggs, Potatos, beans, bacon, sausage, chicharron and carne adovada). They then smother it in red or green chile and cheese. From the first bite, I was amazed at how you could taste every ingredient. At many other restaurants who claim to have a "great burrito", you taste all potato or all chile. At Cecilia's you taste every ingredient in every bite. I will definitely return for a second serving of the Fireman's Burrito.

So if your in the downtown area, I strongly reccommend giving Cecilia's a try!

  • I have been there too  [ Thu Apr 15 2010 2:31 PM ]

and did not think it much to rave about.

maybe it was an "off" day - but the waitstaff were all too busy, and me and my partner felt like we were just 2 more of too many customers.

forgot what I had, but it was okay.

    just okay.

  • Rude, rude, rude  [ Mon Aug 23 2010 1:03 PM ]

Even if the food at Cecilia's was the best on the planet, it wouldn't warrant how outright rude the staff is to anyone who isn't a regular (I'm so with you, Jdogg). We went and the waitress and owner were both extremely bitchy to us, but every time someone they knew walked through the door, they nearly pissed themselves with joy.

To add insult to injury, the food was blah--the adovada was the wateriest I've ever eaten and the prices were high for the quality and the portion size. I'll never never NEVER go there again.

  • Nice staff  [ Fri Nov 2 2012 2:16 PM ]

The staff has always been pleasant when I visit. The red is almost too hot for me but so delicious I power through it!
