Consistently one of the best Vietnamese joints in town, and one of the few spots that whip up durian-fruit shakes. Dalat does a magnificent breaded frog leg appetizer. The crispy golden legs are scrumptious dipped in Dalat's salty, tangy nuoc cham sauce. (Alibi Staff, August 11, 2010)

One of the few restaurants in town that almost never disappoints. Once out of perhaps 20 times that I have eaten there the crispy catfish was not up to par. Dalat's prices are so reasonable that the lapse was easily overlooked. Not much on ambiance; but clean, friendly, with good food. I always come away satisfied and happy.

They tried to ruin my birthday [ Mon Feb 23 2009 1:47 PM ]

I've always loved the food here (though my husband has had some bad dishes), so I chose Cafe Dalat as my choice for a birthday lunch with my ma and brother. As I waited for them for 10 minutes, no one came by to get a drink order or anything. Once my family arrived, it was another 10 minutes before someone came by. 20 minutes later, the food came. I told the very hurried young busser that the dish he brought me was not what I had ordered and told him what I had. 10 minutes went by with no one coming over and no food. Eventually a waiter (not ours) came by and said they were working on it since I had ordered wrong. I replied that I hadn't, and thanked him for letting us know. More time. We all have to get back to work, especially my mom who has to punch a clock. My brother goes up to pay and comes back and says that the waitress, far from apologizing, blamed me again. They truly didn't give a shit. Even if (IF) a customer is confused, everyone in food service knows that you treat them well and help them out. Possibly the worst service experience I've ever had. Boooooo.

Cuz it's one of my favorite places in town. Go there almost once a week a this point. Cheap and tasty, just like I like em.

I always thought this place looked scary from the outside, but had also heard great things about the food. I was surprised to enter to such sharp decor & nice mood lighting. The windows are tinted so outside central traffic isn't as bad as you would think.
What we had:
-Lotus stem salad with cilantro, basil, daikon, carrots, shrimp, tofu crispies and peanuts with a sweet & sour vinaigrette. Juicy little appetizer.
-Spring rolls with pork. Larger than I've had elsewhere with a sweet/pungent dry seasoning in them.
-Vegetable Sour Soup with sweet tamarind broth, pineapple, bokchoy, cilantro, broccoli, tomatoes, cabbage and tofu with steamed rice. Fresh, light and aromatic. Generous portion. Very nice.
-Catfish Sour Soup is what my guy had. Same broth and veggies as above. He really enjoyed it. (little too fishy for me, I'm not big on catfish)
-Hot tea, black with a bit of a smoky flavor served in a cute little ceramic teapot.
Bonus: our water was served in glasses (I'm picky and don't like drinking out of plastic)
The service was prompt and very friendly. We left quite full but in a light and healthy way with plenty of leftovers.
The menu is extensive. Can't wait to go back and try more (the banana beef stew sounds intriguing.)
