You can feel the love the moment you walk into this funky adobe structure (crafted from handmade bricks, formed from the dirt that the building sits on). Ben Michael's positive attitude makes his patrons feel like long-lost family by stepping out of the kitchen to play a tune on the piano, discuss the old family pictures on the wall or even escort an elderly customer out to her car. Just don't go if you're in a rush—all of his authentic New Mexican dishes are prepared from scratch. Try the homemade queso with toasted chips and one of his famous Margaritas to start. Then dive into the surprisingly low-priced combo plate with a chicken or beef taco, carne adovada, a cheese enchilada or chile relleno, and your choice of two sides (pinto beans, rice, calabacitas or papas ).
