La Quiche is an authentic French bakery from husband-and-wife team Sabine Pasco and Bruno Barachin. (Bruno is from Bordeaux, where he achieved Master Baker status years ago.) In addition to a large menu of sandwiches, pâtés, soups and stews (the bourguignonne is served in a house-made pastry shell), La Quiche sells loaves of country bread, fantastically complicated bread showpieces and viennoiseries— flaky, buttery pastries like brioche , croissants and pain au chocolate that traditionally came from Vienna. They use imported French butter, and it shows. The fruit tarts are the best in town. You'll also find a catering menu and a variety of quiches, ready to go for Downtown’s abundant supply of workers with little time for a proper lunch. (Alibi Staff, August 11, 2010)

Pan Bagna, the sandwich immortalized by Calvin Trillin in his New Yorker piece--I'd been on the lookout for it on an Albuquerque menu for quite awhile. Found it here. To be sure, it is a Southwestern version of the acclaimed French market fare: green chile layered with the marinated tuna, sliced hardboiled egg, muenster cheese, tomato, and leaf lettuce between thick slices of house-baked brioche bread. So rich and tasty--craving satisfied! For a dollar extra, be sure to opt for their pasta salad--with rotini, fresh tomato, and sliced black olives--as it's much better than average.

The Frenchie (french dip). mmmm. Quality roast beef (not cold cut style but actual brisket it appears), freshly baked baguette, wonderful spread with fresh rosemary! Perfectly melted provolone. I did the happy dance while eating.
Au Jambon. Freshly baked croissant, quality ham, swiss, smothered in a cream sauce. oh. my. god. Heaven.
They have a variety of freshly baked breads, pastries and of course quiche.
Odd location downtown but don't let that dissuade you. You simply must try this place. Owners' French accents a bonus.
Also a bonus, there is zero pretentiousness here.

I love La Quiche's veggie sandwich. The pastries are delicious too, and it always smells so good in there. It they'd jazz up the atmosphere (and turn off whatever awful local radio station they play in there), it would be the perfect restaurant.

It was awesome. It didn't have fresh rosemary on mine but the herbed garlic mayo spread was still yummy.
I personally don't think the atmosphere needs jazzed up; it's clean and welcoming with nice artwork. I like it when they play French music:)

It was a little shy on the roast beef and it could have used more horseradish, but it was otherwise delicious. I like how they smash their sandwiches flat like Julia Child used to; it makes them easier to bite.

Very disappointed! (C'est domage) [ Fri Aug 13 2010 10:23 PM ]

After participating in the commencement ceremony for my department to celebrate receiving my PhD, I went here to eat. The service was poor throughout the meal, the prices were expensive, and the food was not very good at all. I was extremely disappointed. While waiting a very long time for the check, at least 3 staff members simply stared at us at the bar rather than offer to help. I finally got up to track down the server so we could get our check and leave. I will never eat here again.
