From the folks who brought us Sophia’s Place (breakfast and lunch only), Ezra’s Place is just a short jog down the street inside the Lucky 66 Bowl. Chef Dennis is playing with dinner in the same lane-side dining room where Sadie’s got its start. The Kobe beef burger is what all burgers should aspire to be, and at $10 (served with blue cheese, caramelized red onion and a heap of those shoestring fries), it’s an outright steal. Other dishes span a wide and surprising ingredient range ( Asadero cheese? Duck confit and free-range chicken?) but the comfort-food quality (tacos, et al) make this place at home in the bowling alley. Open for lunch and dinner, plus brunch on the weekends. Best fish tacos I've had in ABQ. oh my god were they perfect! And the blue cheese Kobe burger- made me want to melt.mmmmmm. My taste buds were in heaven.

The staff was a little slow on the order taking, but I'll forgive them as it was a bit busy.

  • Tis the season  [ Wed May 26 2010 5:46 PM ]

The soft shell crabs here ROCK! Get 'em while they're still in season.

any type of seafood in the southwest...it just doesn't compute and generally tastes stale and disgusting like it's been in the freezer too long, but I may have to try it because everything else I've had here is to-die-for good.

  • we all eat the same shrimp  [ Thu May 27 2010 9:18 AM ]

doesn't matter where you live, it's all from some shrimp farm in thailand.

you can get fabulous seafood at markets like ta lin and from mariscos joints like mariscos la playa and mariscos altamar. stands to reason ezra's would have access to the same supply lines (e.g. seattle fish co. of new mexico).

  • Soft shell crab isn't shrimp  [ Thu May 27 2010 11:29 AM ]

Different types of seafood come from different ocean locations. Obviously. Fox is from NC so I'm wondering what he had there that was actually from those shores and not shipped in frozen.

Now I'm going to do some research to try and argue with you, jerry.

  • NC and New England  [ Thu May 27 2010 1:53 PM ]

the latter having the best seafood in existence, especially known for its lobster, clam and crab. As for coastal NC, I don't know what exactly is native and commonly caught in those parts, but there is a much greater emphasis on "fresh" and "quality" as well on the east coast, giving it all in all a much better taste. I haven't seen that here, but that's to be expected as this is a landlocked desert we dwell in.

For the same reason that overpriced New Mexican restaurant in NYC is atrocious compared to what you can get readily available here, the same goes for seafood.

Jerry, aren't you from NY or something originally?
