Ernie Pyle is not just the namesake of Albuquerque’s cutest library, but a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and war correspondent who brought news of World War II back home. Not least of all—he is a fellow Hoosier. The New Mexico Humanities Council hosts Ernie Pyle: A GI-Wise Gypsy, an exhibition showcasing Pyle’s journalism and photography. The exhibit opened on February 1, and runs through March 30. On Thursday, Feb. 22, at 6pm hosts the authors Baldwin G. Burr and Richard Melzer, authors of Ernie Pyle: Tributes to America’s Best Loved Newspaper Columnist for a free conversation about the writer’s work and life.

Found Objects Curator Series Commences

Central Features Contemporary Art curator Nancy Zastudil, along with Independent Curators International are kicking off a series of lectures delivered by curators from across the region to our community to visit and advise artists, deliver talks and provide mentorship. The first participant in this Visiting Curator Series is Rachel Cook, curator of DiverseWorks in Houston and the Creative Director of On the Boards in Seattle. On Friday, Feb. 23, Cook offers up her insights in a free lecture at Sanitary Tortilla Factory (401 Second Street SW). Following Cook’s talk is a performance by Eric-Paul Reige. Show up at 5:30pm for the full experience.

Found Objects Deepening The Dance

A full seven-day stay at the Rodey Theatre, at the Center for the Arts on UNM’s campus begins on Friday, Feb. 23 for AMPLIFY, an evening of dance featuring both contemporary and flamenco choreography designed by some of the dance world’s finest, both locally and from far afield. On Saturday, Feb. 24, KD Neeley (104 Fourth Street NW) hosts music in the studio and gallery space. The musical stylings of Bébé La La fills the building between 4 and 6pm, offering an immersive way to view the current assault awareness exhibition on display. The exhibition features work by the likes of photographer Monica Dominguez-Reazin, whose portraits illumine powerful narratives of resilience. The concert is just $10 to $15 to attend, and 40 percent of all proceeds from work purchased from the exhibition is donated to The Rape Crisis Center of Central New Mexico.
