John Gibson has been painting still life for almost two decades, and his second solo exhibition for Gerald Peters includes paintings that he began working on after September 11, 2001. While still life may be a difficult artistic concept for some to grasp, Gibson continues to push ahead with the medium—depicting spheres as singles or in groups—with painting sizes ranging from 60 by 60 inches to 10 by 13 inches. Primarily oil on wood panels, sometimes with numerous panels used to make up a canvas, that have been heavily sanded and scored, giving the pieces an unexpected three-dimensional look. A reception will be held Saturday, Sept. 27, from 5 to 7 p.m. The show will run through Nov. 1. (505) 954-5700.
