Looking over this bland, largely pointless list of factoids about our fair state, I’m reminded of how lucky we are that outsiders often miss New Mexico’s many charms. (I suppose it’s partly because of lists like this.) At the same time, though, I sure do get annoyed sometimes to hear detractors whine about how lame New mexico is.The other day I was talking to my mom on the phone. My parents are coming to visit in a couple weeks. They were thinking of taking a mini road trip down south while they’re here, and she said something along the lines of, “But, god, there’s nothing but desert down there. Who wants to see that?” I’m just thankful she was a thousand miles away. Who knows what sort of horrible matricidal violence might have ensued?
