As it turns out, sandhill cranes love the short and temperate winters in New Mexico just as much as we do. The Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge is a paradise for more than 10,000 migratory birds each year. All weekend long at the Open Space Visitor Center (6500 Coors NW), celebrate the return of the sandhill crane with talks, films, crafts, art and live music dedicated to these part-time residents. Events run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, and are free. For more information and a complete schedule of events, call the visitor center at 897-8831 or visit cabq.gov/openspace.
