Watsky Slams Words

Wanna set your heart racing with speed of speech and beauty of words? Look no further than Sunshine Theater (120 Central SW) on Sunday, Oct. 19, when Watsky and special guests Kyle and Anderson .Paak blow your mind at 7pm. The rapper, poet and spoken word artist evolved from youth poetry slam days into an alternative hip-hop persona with plenty to say and mind-boggling methods of saying it. Promoting third studio album All You Can Do, Watsky deals with themes of corruption and fraud in politics and the music industry plus the paper-thin tapestry of the American dream.

Watsky suggests it can be achieved through revelation of social truths and belief in our own ability to live our dreams. “Never Let It Die” sums up being true to yourself, proclaiming, “So when I'm tested, I remember I've been blessed/ With that tender ember resting left of center in my chest/ ... So if you got a flame that's blazing hot within/ Take a deep breath and feed it oxygen.” Watsky's talent for speed-rapping will enthrall logophiles, especially tracks like “Whoa Whoa Whoa,” where Watsky packs 43 words into five seconds. Tickets are 15 bones, and they're worth every penny. Sunshine Theater • Sun Oct 19 • 7pm • $15 • ALL-AGES! • View on Alibi calendar
