All of the Lights: Luminarias in ABQ
Part of the mystique of the holidays comes with driving down the streets, seeing numerous Santas on rooftops, balls of light coating picket fences and reindeer on lawns. So if driving through the city looking at Christmas lights sounds like something you and the kiddos might be interested in, the Duke City has your Christmas Eve celebrations covered. You can start off with ABQ RIDE's 50th annual Luminaria Tour, which takes folks through the Old Town and Country Club neighborhoods. That happens Christmas Eve from 5:30 to 7:20pm and takes off from the Albuquerque Convention Center (401 Second Street NW). Tour times vary, and prices range from $1.70 to $3. Not bad, eh?
If you feel like traveling beyond the city limits (but still have some bright lights and luminarias in mind), head to the Sky City Cultural Center at Acoma Pueblo (I-40, Exit 102) for their Christmas Eve Luminaria celebration. Featuring over 2,000 of these light-filled treasures, follow them to the Acoma Pueblo. That's a mere $5 and starts at 6pm.
Lastly, you can hop on your bicycle and follow the staff from Routes Bicycle Tours and Rentals in Old Town (404 San Felipe NW) to see some of the most stunning light displays in the state of New Mexico. This Lights and Luminarias Holiday Bicycle Tour happens Christmas Eve at 5, 6:45 and 8pm. Tickets go for $18 for adults and $15 for children (bike rental included). But if you feel like taking your own bicycle, the BYO-Bike tickets go for $15 (adults) and $10 (for the young'uns). Tickets for this one are selling fast, so get 'em while they're available.
