Dirty Southern Whores.
There’s something in the waters of Georgia’s Chattahoochee and Savannah Rivers. Something dark and heavy enough to produce all those sludge metal bands coming out of Athens, Atlanta and Savannah, like Mastodon, Baroness and Jucifer. Now 505 metal fans ages 21-plus can kick out the jams with Atlanta’s Whores., coming to Launchpad (618 Central SW) on Sunday, Feb. 8. This trio of crotchety middle-aged fuckers makes music just as crushing, noisy and hilarious as groups half their age; their 2013 EP Clean features tracks like “Cougars, Not Kittens” and “I Am Not a Goal-Oriented Person.”
Since then, they’ve covered The Cure’s “Jumping Someone Else’s Train” on a split 7-inch with Portland’s Rabbits and released the single “Bloody Like the Day You Were Born” as part of the Amphetamine Reptile Records compilation Dope, Guns 'N' Fucking in the Streets #13. So keep holy the black Sabbath, and rock out with a threesome of filthy Whores. Metal band Loathe and local hardcore screamers Bathhouse are slated to open at 8:30pm. Tickets are eight bucks at holdmyticket.com. Launchpad • Sun Feb 8 • 8:30pm • $8 • 21+ • View on Alibi calendar
