Fancy Lady Pickin'
Cathy Fink and Marcy Marxer at SBCC
Two legendary ladies of American roots music will be in Albuquerque this weekend to showcase some ultra-fancy pickin’ on Sunday, April 26, at the South Broadway Cultural Center (1025 Broadway SE). Cathy Fink is one of the finest clawhammer banjo players on Earth, and nobody knows how to flail on a uke better than Marcy Marxer. They’ll throw in some mandolin, guitar and more than a few family-friendly jokes during the afternoon (2pm) and evening (7pm) concerts on Sunday. Local banjo star Wayne Shrubsall opens the evening show.
It’s the first time the pair is performing together in New Mexico, so bring your kids and your grandpappies. For all you know, this could be a once-in-a-lifetime chance to witness this duo in action. It's $10 for the 2pm concert and $20 for the 7pm concert. If you’re interested in trying your hand at this musical style, Fink and Marxer will also be hosting some workshops on Saturday, April 25, at a private home.
