Sunday, Oct 11: Khachaturian and Finnish Songs

On Sunday, Oct. 11, join Chatter ABQ, Albuquerque's unique and innovative art music producers, at their new concert venue, Las Puertas. The multi-talented organization features a concert highlighting the work of modernist Soviet-Armenian composer Aram Khachaturian as well as Finnish songs by European composers Oskar Merikanto, Leevi Madetoja and Heino Kaski. Khachaturian's evocative Trio for Clarinet, Violin and Piano is known for its flowing, yet dissonant harmonization and intense interplay between the violin and clarinet.

Baritone Timothy Mix of Opera Southwest interprets the compelling work of latter-day Finnish composers, tackling the work in a language both wondrous and memorable for its acute lyricism. Tickets for this exploration of musical boundaries cost $5-15. The event begins with a reading by local poet of note V.B. Price.
