Saturday, Nov 28: Annual Winter Solstice Concert

The New Mexico Performing Arts Society, based in Santa Fe, will present their annual Winter Solstice Concerts at the end of November. The recitals will take place in Albuquerque on Saturday, Nov. 28, at First United Methodist Church (314 Lead SW) and in Santa Fe on Sunday, Nov. 29, at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel (50 Mount Carmel).

Two Baroque works by Johann Sebastian Bach will be performed. The Violin Concerto in A minor, BWV 1041 features Ruxandra Marquardt as violin soloist. Bach's Süßer Trost, mein Jesus kömmt (Sweet comfort, my Jesus comes) BWV 151 is a cantata written for four voices that is traditionally heard on the feast day of John the Evangelist, during Advent. A variety of seasonal music is also on the program including works from Irsee Monastery in Bavaria, Germany, and Renaissance choral music. Tickets range from $15-25.
