Sunday, Jan 3: Chatter Sunday: Classical Guitar
New Mexican Elliot Simpson is a guitarist whose work embraces both the classical and the experimental. He's studied at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague. Although he currently lives and works in Europe, Simpson will return to Albuquerque for a concert sponsored by Chatter ABQ on Sunday, Jan. 3, at 10:30am.
Simpson will be performing the work of 16th century Italian composer Giovanni Battista dalla Gostena (Fantasies VIII, IX and X) as well as the postmodern work of Maurizio Pisati (Poema della Luce) and James Tenney (Koan). Tenney, an influential music theorist from Silver City, N.M., writes complex work that is grounded in explorations of perception, just intonation (music where the notes played are related to ratios of whole numbers) and symmetric, reverse repetition. Reed Adair Bobroff begins the heady recital with an intense, heartfelt poetry reading. Admission prices range from $5-15. Las Puertas • Sun Jan 3 • 10:30-11:30am • $5-$15 • ALL-AGES! • View on Alibi calendar
