Friday, Aug 26: Mountainair Sunflower Festival

There's just something about the sunflower. We're used to it, but if you step back for a minute, it looks like something from a '70s French sci-fi movie. Ever seen one of those really big ones, the size of your head? You're staring at it. It's staring at you. There's that unmistakable feeling that you're not alone. Spooky. These beautiful (and freaky) flowers have inspired human beings for countless centuries, which is probably why the good people of Mountainair host their annual Sunflower Festival, starting this Friday night at 5pm with a wine tasting (admission $10), art opening and music by the jazz trio, Blue Room. The festival continues on Saturday, Aug. 27, with arts and crafts, a sunflower hat contest, live music, food vendors, children's activities and a juried art show. This is a free event welcoming all ages. Dr. Saul Community Center, Mountainair • Fri Aug 26 • 5-8pm • FREE • ALL-AGES! • View on Alibi calendar
