1896 – The Tootsie Roll is invented.

1941 –Plutonium (plutonium-238) was first produced and isolated on December 14, and chemically identified on February 23, 1941, by Dr. Glenn T. Seaborg, Edwin M. McMillan, J. W. Kennedy, Z. M. Tatom, and A. C. Wahl. That's a whole crap load of names.

1954 – The first mass inoculation of children against polio with the Salk vaccine begins in Pittsburgh.

2005 – The controversial French law on
colonialism is passed, requiring teachers to teach the "positive values of colonialism". After public outcry, it is repealed at the beginning of 2006.
