Old Town Set to Rock and Roll for Elvis Live on the Plaza
The crowd may be "All Shook Up" when the King's music is celebrated in historic Old Town on Friday, April 8 from 5 to 8pm .
The Bar Stars, formed by pro bassist Donny Tesso, winner of the recent 'Lifetime Achievement Award' presented by the New Mexico Hispano Music Association, will perform "live" karaoke featuring a diverse repertoire that includes music from the 1950s to today, including a lot of Elvis' huge hits like "Love Me Tender," "Return to Sender" and many more. Band members include the very talented Joe Galle on guitar, Andy Polling on drums, and Ramiro "Rum" Rodriguez on the keyboard.
These days, it's likely that only our senior citizens in Albuquerque actually remember when Elvis performed at the old Armory in April of 1956. At that time his first single, "Heartbreak Hotel," that was climbing Billboard's Top 100 chart.
While he was here in 1956, Elvis stayed at the Bottger Hotel (now called Bottger Mansion) right in Old Town.
Elvis wannabes can sign up to sing Elvis tunes karaoke style and sing along with the band as they bring back memories of why Elvis' music was so popular across the world.
Hacienda del Rio will offer burgers, including green chile cheeseburgers, chips, bottled beverages and more for purchase to sate appetites and thirsts, and the whole family can have fun in Albuquerque's oldest community while reminiscing about the "good old days."
To celebrate the eras of Elvis, the Albuquerque Classic Chevy Club will be showcasing some of their timeless cars, so cruise on by and take in these beautifully restored classics.
The event is free, but you can expect a fun time for Elvis Live on the Plaza!
