Summertime in Old Town Offers Weekend Fun
Historic Old Town's Summertime in Old Town concerts are in full swing this month. The free weekend concert series brings music and dance to the Plaza every Friday and Saturday evening and Sunday afternoons through early fall.
Today, Friday, May 6 from 7 to 9pm visitors and locals can enjoy the musical talents of Mala Maña who brings Latin, African & mixed-global rhythms to the Gazebo stage. Saturday, May 7 from 7-9 p.m. Shane Wallin will fill the evening with soulful Americana.
Sunday, May 8 is Mother's Day, and from 1 to 3pm moms and the whole family can enjoy the sounds of one of Albuquerque's most popular jazz ensembles, Entourage Jazz. If that isn't enough, Albuquerque's Tango Club keeps the energy alive with dance demonstrations. A delicious lunch in one of Old Town's many restaurants and shopping for a great gift for mom makes this the perfect celebration with no hassle, no reservations and lots of fun for the family.
If you are a blues and bluegrass lover, be sure to head to Old Town on Friday, May 13 from 7 to 9pm where the Gregg Daigle Band brings the best crowd-pleasing down-home blues and lively bluegrass music to the stage.
Swing and folk music more to your taste? On Saturday, May 14 from 7 to 9pm Zoltan and the Fortune Tellers will have folks on their feet dancing to the swinging beat. And, for Latin American music lovers, Sunday, May 15 from 1 to 3pm Trio Los Amigos de New Mexico will bring the beat and inspire many in the crowd to get up and dance.
The following weekend offers Stratus Phear performing classic rock and more on Friday night, May 20, 7 to 9pm.
On Saturday, May 21 from noon to 5pm it is time for Summertime Stroll with live music, food, shopping and other fun activities, followed by the Santa Cruzan de Mayo celebration presented by the Filipino American Foundation from 6 to 8 pm. Sunday, May 22 from 1 to 3 pm those dancing shoes take the stage when the National Institute of Flamenco and Tango Club perform.
The performance schedule for the final week in May includes Terra Trio performing Latin, jazz, bossa nova and samba on Friday, May 27 from 7 to 9pm, with the sophisticated sounds of songstress Tracey Whitney bringing jazz to the Plaza on Saturday, May 28 from 7 to 9pm And on Sunday, May 29 from 1 to 3 pm the Calvin Appleberry Trio rounds out the weekend with jazz and soul.
Memorial Day, Monday, May 30, features the 15-piece band Westside Sound performing a variety of music ranging from swing to polka and everything in between. To stay in the nostalgic mood, check out the classic cars surrounding the plaza from Poco Quatros Model A Club.
