Bubonicon For the Win!
Bubonicon is undead (Everything is Better with Zombies) and on a roll at the Albuquerque Grand Hotel- and it’s already been a blast. The Art Show opened at 5 this afternoon, and I must say, there is some fantastic art- both literally and figuratively. The con suite is host to more than just convention goers, I enjoyed some chips and dip with none other than Scott Phillips and Nathan Long of "Kamen Rider: Dragon Knight" among other things. Artist Darla Hallmark, who is in the “flea market”, gifted me with a spectacular hat from Corsets and Cloaks, also located in the market. Tomorrow, I’m going to make it a point to meet Diana Gabaldon (author of the Outlander series) and get my geek on in the costume contest.
Until Sunday afternoon you can enjoy gaming, anime, more Star Trek than a normal citizen can handle; a plethora of Force wielding Jedi Knights, officers of the Empire, Dr. Who fanatics and so much more. There are steam punk pilots, mad scientists of many varieties, and did I mention the art? Peri Charlifu is the Artist Guest of Honor this year, and I must say that his sculpture- not to mention his 2-D art is drool worthy. I have several pieces of his, I add to my collection ever year, and plan to walk out with a few more pieces this Sunday.
I could go on, but their website really covers most of it- all proceeds from this all ages event go to local charities, which is very cool. I hope to see many of you there! (It’ll be easy to spot me tomorrow, feel free to say hi.)
