Year of the Rooster
Aaron Worley directs this production featuring Odysseus Rex, a rooster of super-human strength who takes on the world. Runs through 11/16.
FUSION (FUSIONnm.org), New Mexicoâs professional theatre company, is proud to continue its 2014-15 season with the staging of the regional premiere of the NYC hit, Year of the Rooster by Eric Dufault. After having an extended run at the Ensemble Studio Theatre in Manhattan earlier this year, FUSION will stage its production in Downtown Albuquerque at The Cell Theatre from November 6th â 16th.
Meet Odysseus Rex. Not the man, but the bird!! He is a rooster of super-human strength who gladly enters the ring of life taking on all the world can sling at him. Fighting has been bred into his nature, but loving comes to him as an intoxicating surprise. Twenty-something Dufault has realized an extraordinary literary achievement in a piece that contains mature, funny, and potent commentary on contemporary society. âMr. Dufault gives this rooster a complex, conflicted inner life and a revelatory perspective on the world.ââNeil Genzlinger, New York Times
The production is directed by Aaron Worley, who is making his FUSION main stage directorial debut. The cast features Paul Blott, Portlandâs (OR) Elizabeth Huffman, Peter Diseth, Fredricksburgâs (VA) Levi Shrader, and Skye Watterberg.
On presenting the prestigious 2014 PoNY Award (Playwrights of New York) to Dufault:
âIâve had this feeling before â but rarely â that I am in the presence of the extraordinary,â Lark Play Development Centerâs Artistic Director John Clinton Eisner said. âThis playwright has something important to say. He writes evocatively, and in ways that make theater both meaningful and fun for actors and audiences.â
Year of the Rooster contains adult language and is recommended for mature audiences.
