Lovers & Madmen Shapes Fantasies

Support local musicians by making your way to Low Spirits (2823 Second Street NW) on Friday, Nov. 21, for a night of up-to-the-minute Americana folk rock with Lovers & Madmen. Husband-and-wife duo Rachel and Marsh Shamburger show off their talents as singers, lyricists and musicians with songs from debut EP Tales of Lovers and Madmen. Fans of The Civil Wars and The Black Keys may find a new favorite with the cohesive yet diverse sound they bring to the stage. It's a little bit country and a little bit rock 'n' roll. Lyrical aficionados will love “Prison Train,” which serves up poetry wrapped in an Old West tale. And listen for the beautifully balanced “A Place to Rest” with Rachel on violin and Marsh on guitar. Its sound is reminiscent of “You and Tequila,” with haunting lyrics intoning, “Running from the morning/ Deep into the night/ Shadows growing smaller/ Shelter out of sight/ I'm wide awake/ The dawn will break/ To swallow me again/ Can I find a place to rest my head?” Also prepare to bang your head to totally badass Southern rock tune “Salesman of Death.” Joined by Eric + Erica and Quietly Kept, doors open at 8pm for this 21-plus show.
