Enjoy a day at the farm! Visit fiber art studios in the beautiful East Mountain area, outside of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Only a short drive east of Albuquerque will bring you to this rural area where fiber artists and fiber animal breeders open their studios and farms one weekend every year.
You will have the opportunity to visit with alpacas, sheep, angora goats, llamas and angora rabbits. Their hair is sought after for making the finest yarns for handweaving, felting, crocheting and knitting. Meet the breeders as well as the animals and learn about the process of raising these prized animals. Introduce your children to the source of the fabrics we all love to wear.
Visit the studios where artists turn these and other fine fibers into handmade fabrics for clothing and home use. Learn about dyeing fabrics and making wonderful creations from them. Even the buttons on some of these garments are hand made from glass in one of these studios!
There will be fiber related items for sale at each location including yarn, roving, felted fabric, spinning wheels, looms, drop spindles; handwoven, knitted, felted and crocheted garments; buttons, hand painted silk scarves and clothing, livestock, raw fleeces, and animal related jewelry.
Bring your camera and your children to see the many ongoing demonstrations including spinning, weaving, knitting and more.
Come out, join in the fun, breathe the fresh mountain air and enjoy the landscape of the East Mountain area for this educational and exciting annual event.
