Participating comic book stores around the world provide free, specially printed comics for anyone who enters the shop.

For the thirteenth year, the art, storylines and creativity of comics are being celebrated at participating comic book stores around the world with free specially printed comics to anyone who comes into their shops.  “Free Comic Book Day” (FCBD) takes place on Saturday, May 2nd and this year over 50 titles will be available from the children’s favorite “Sponge Bob”, the ever popular Doctor Who, to the exciting launch of Marvel’s “Secret Wars”

Shared Universe (428 Louisiana Blvd. Southeast) will be participating in FCBD not only with free comics but a decided focus on the art of comics.  There will be a comic coloring contest and various artists will be demonstrating their techniques including featured artist, David “Artassassin” Harrigan.  David has been a freelance illustrator for the past fifteen years working on a very wide range or projects from book covers and comic book work to t-shirt and Frisbee design.  His artistic adventures have landed his work in the Library of Congress and featured during a Thomas Dolby concert.  Some of his credits include artwork for Radio Comix, Antarctic Press, Super Real Graphics, Imagine FX magazine, Voltron – United and Drawn, sketch cards for several trading card series (The Pro, Sheena, Vampirella, Grimm Fairy Tales, Lady Death, Transformers and Warlord of Mars) and most recently providing variant covers for the popular Lady Death.  David is currently working on a few top-secret projects.

Shared Universe invites you to experience the joy of comics by dropping by on Saturday May 2nd (noon to 6PM) and picking up your free comics.
