Fly Me There
You know what they say: First comes spring, then comes kites. Actually, no one says that, but they should, no? Keep that in mind this coming weekend, when the Wildlife West Nature Park (87 N. Frontage Rd.) in Edgewood, N.M., holds their Annual Wind Festival, which'll feature a number of kites and demonstrations from the American Kiter's Association. Wow, such a thing exists? This'll be a great opportunity to try out that kite you gave to your children for Christmas that's been gathering dust in the garage. You can either take your own kite or purchase one when you get there on Saturday or Sunday, May 2 and 3, from 10am to 6pm. The sky will be glowing in color as an array of flight-filled paper whisks under the clouds. The event itself is free, but since you'll be there, you may as well check out the nature park and zoo, which has a black bear, cougars, endangered Mexican wolves and more. Price of admission for the zoo is $9 for adults, $7 for seniors and $5 for children. Kiddos under 5 get in for free. Oh, and there will be food and beverages from local vendors, so don't fill up at the Golden Corral before you head out there. For more info, head to wildlifewest.org. (Mark Lopez)
