Heritage Day: History in Your Backyard
A talk by Col. David C'de Baca on the military heritage of Corrales.
The historical heart of Corrales bustles with opportunities to engage with the history in our own backyard including traditional Hispanic songs from the remarkable local Trio Los Primos, visiting with a traditional blacksmith as he works the forge, learning how to bake bread in the adobe horno, and creating a take home craft. Other activities include trying your hand at carding wool, visiting churro sheep and learning how the humble burros helped to supply the New Mexican frontier. The Corrales Historical Society sponsors a talk by Colonel David C'de Baca on the military heritage of Corrales at 10:00 a.m. Local artists will demonstrate traditional arts of tin smithing, jewelry making, colcha embroidery, encrusted straw and retablo painting.
