Linda Tigges shows how these laws worked in everyday life for women and their families.
Women’s history is full of surprises. For instance, during the Spanish colonial period, Spanish women enjoyed various kinds of protection under the law for which their English-speaking counterparts had to wait nearly two hundred years. Spanish colonial women were protected against bad marriages and spousal abuse. On Saturday, August 8, Casa San Ysidro: The Gutiérrez/Minge House is hosting a free program, Spanish Colonial Women, Spousal Abuse and Spanish Law in New Mexico. Linda Tigges will show how these laws worked in everyday life for women and their families.Visitors may embark on self-paced tours of Casa San Ysidro both prior to and following the presentation between the hours of 1:00 and 4:00 p.m. Casa San Ysidro is located at 973 Old Church Road in the Village of Corrales.
