Hops and Dreams

Beer/Bellies

Jeff Bidewell Photography

International belly dance star, Delilah, once said, “Locked in this dance is a secret language that tells the story of women’s lives: their passions and their spirituality, their sacrifices, their joys, their intuitions, their emotional life drama.” If you're looking for insight into that secret language, then traipse on over to Tractor Brewery Wells Park (1800 Fourth Street NW) on Friday, Aug. 21, for a mesmerizing “Hops and Dreams” performance by the Desert Darlings tribal belly dance troupe. Co-founded by Sadie Adair and Lucia Luna, the dancers specialize in Tribal Fusion while “respectfully” borrowing from traditional styles of belly dance. The talented ladies of the seven-piece group have backgrounds ranging from hip-hop and flamenco to trapeze and Classical East Indian Dance. Sip a Farmer's Tan Red Ale while gazing at those bellies move with snake-like grace to all-original choreography or cultivate a beer-mustache with the Milk Mustachio Stout as you listen to the hypnotic beat of the music. The goal of the troupe “is to transport you to a different time and place with beautifully odd belly dancing” and that it just what they will do. The show is free and starts at 8pm. (Renee Chavez)
