Free open house for teachers.
The BioPark Zoo will host a free open house for teachers from 9 am-2 pm on Saturday, September 26. Any teacher can bring their valid school STAFF identification card to the Teacher Check-In table at the Zoo’s Main Entrance to gain Zoo admission for themselves and one guest.
We’ll be celebrating Elephant Conservation Day at the Zoo during the Open House, so there are many educational activities planned for a fun, fantastic and resource-filled day at the Zoo.
The following is a sampling of activities planned for our Teacher Open House at the Zoo:
Elephant Conservation Day, 10am-2pm
We’ll have discovery stations, enrichment making, a keeper Q&A and more at the Elephant habitat viewing area.
Visit the Zoo to You Van!, 10am-2pm
The Zoo to You (ZTU) outreach van will be parked in front of the Education Building with education animals and biofacts to showcase what students can learn with a ZTU outreach presentation. We help educators teach about adaptations, habitats, and stewardship.
Docent-led Guided Tours, 11am & 1pm
Join trained volunteer teachers for guided themed tours of our Zoo. For elementary school teachers, join a tour focusing on adaptations and habitats. For middle and high school teachers, join a tour focusing on identifying endangered species and using tools like ethograms to record observations and inspire discussion. Learn how a trip to the Zoo can more than just any fieldtrip; we’re the perfect outdoor classroom!
