Planetarium staff and members of the Albuquerque Astronomical Society provide several telescopes to monitor the moon’s slide into the Earth’s shadow.

The full moon closest to the fall equinox is sometimes called the Harvest Moon, but this year it will turn dark red during a total lunar eclipse.  This eclipse is special since the moon will be nearest the Earth in its slightly elliptical orbit.  It will be 2018 before the next total lunar eclipse is visible.

Maximum eclipse is around 8:45 p.m.  This event could be canceled if the sky is cloudy.  Check the museum’s Facebook page for updates.
