All is Calm: The Christmas Truce of 1914

Calm Down

On Dec. 24, 1914, on World War I's Western Front, Allied Forces and German soldiers called a truce. As history tells it, soldiers shouted “Merry Christmas!” across lines in their enemy's native languages and sang carols together. This true story is told in insightful detail in a production at Vortex Theatre, All is Calm: The Christmas Truce of 1914. The play was produced in collaboration with Mother Road Theatre Company. Take in some history and bolster your Christmas cheer until with this show, which runs through Sunday, Dec. 27. (Maggie Grimason)
