Exhibition title:
The Enchanted Forest/Images of the Rio Grande Bosque – Gravure by Lincoln Draper
Lincoln Draper’s classic black and white gravure prints of the New Mexico Bosque evoke an interplay of imagination and space and manifest a sense of the transformative presence of the woods: a place that invites us into an interactive intimacy. In photo gravure an image is generated by exposing a photo transparency to a light sensitive plate which is printed like an etching. Gravure was originally invented to produce “an actual rendering of nature.” Some of the pioneers of gravure were Alfred Stieglitz and Ansel Adams who created the classic look for this medium. Lincoln Draper’s work follows in the footsteps of these masters.
