Ink, acrylic and oil works by Barbara Zaring. Runs through 9/11.
The result of a fusion of forty years of painting in Taos, the new exhibit opening July 21, 4-6 pm at the Encore Gallery, TCA, by Barbara Zaring, explores and transforms a personal, interior landscape.
Zaring painted en plein air for more than twenty five years, focusing on the Northern New Mexico environment.
These decades of exploration were equally the experience of being with nature; watching the sun filled day turn into billowing clouds and thunderstorms, walking the mountains, swimming in rivers, and feeling the wind on her face, as they were the creation of the landscape before her into unique representations.
Reimagining these earlier years, filled with an expressionistic, emotional essence of landscape, Zaring has now formed original, abstract works.
The viewer journeys into an interior world alive with billowing forms, vibrating pools, exquisite sunlight, and stormy days.
The work is authentic, dream-like, and intensely visceral.
Zaring works with inks, acrylics, oils, silks and an alchemist’s bag of original methodology.
This exhibition is as delicious, filled with sensual color, as it is wondrous.
During her career Zaring has been in the exhibitions of fourteen museums including The Philbrook Museum of Art, Tulsa, Oklahoma, the Eiteljorg Museum, Indianapolis, Indiana, and The Harwood Museum, Taos, New Mexico.
She is published in more than a dozen books and has done cover art for Cultivating the Mind of Love by Thich Nhat Hanh, Parallax Press, Banana Rose by Natalie Goldberg, Bantam Press, and The Norton Reader, W.W. Norton & Co. She is represented in many public, private and corporate collections.
Honors include representing the United States in the Art in the Embassies Program in Zagreb, Croatia, and as Artist-in-Residence at Yosemite National Park, California. Her work has been on the program covers of some of the finest classical music festivals in the United States.
