Cover Girl
A one-woman solo show that dissects declarations of fraud, dreams of gratification and the facades people often put on for themselves and for others.
Malinda LaVelle’s Project Thrust is excited to present Cover Girl, the company’s fifth evening-length dance-theater performance. Cover Girl is a one-woman solo show performed by founding member and dancer Emmaly Wiederholt. The piece dissects declarations of fraud, dreams of gratification, and the facades people often put on for themselves and for others. In March 2016, artistic director Malinda LaVelle and dancer Emmaly Wiederholt created Cover Girl together during a weeklong artist residency at The Peñasco Theater in Peñasco, NM.
“This is me.” Each of the four vignettes comprising Cover Girl starts with this simple declaration. However, identity is anything but clear as the protagonist becomes more and more fantastical in her assertions, dress and demeanor. The result is an uproarious ride through the trials of personal defeat and the many ways to retell one’s own narrative.
