Mable Orndorff from the Ichiyo School of Ikebana teaches Japanese flower arranging workshop. Bring a shallow container and scissors. All other materials are provided.
Mable Orndorff will teach a one-day workshop on Japanese flower arranging (Ikebana). Register early as class size is limited!
The workshop theme is Ikebana Autumn, which we will address and explore with a Moribana arrangement. The Moribana arrangement is often referred to as “flowers piled up” because it is evocative of a bowl full of rice. In the morning session, Mable will give a brief history of Ikebana, a detailed demonstration and discussion of this type of arrangement, and provide handouts showing the main components of the basic upright Moribana form. In the afternoon session, you will create a design. She will critique each arrangement and you will take a picture of your work. For the final challenge of the day, you will deconstruct your work, build it up again without instructor input, and take another picture. A comparison of the two images will allow you to assess and document what you have learned.
Mable Orndorff is a long-time instructor in the Ichiyo School of Ikebana and an active member in the local Ikebana International Chapter.
NOTE: You will need to bring your own shallow container of any shape (1.5 to 2” deep and 8 to 13” in length or diameter) and a Hasami (shears) for sizing the stems. All other materials (including the kenzan - a pin frog to hold the flowers) will be provided.
Cost: $145 + $10 Floral Materials fee (payable to instructor).
